As each requirement is completed, the scout gets an acknowledgement signature from the patrol leader in the appropriate place at the end of the handbook.
-
When all but the last three requirements have been signed off, the scout receives a signature from the patrol leader signifying satisfactory participation in troop activities (known as demonstrating "scout spirit, etc.").
-
Properly wearing a complete class A uniform, the scout requests a scoutmaster conference where the scoutmaster will discuss the meaning of each requirement and the scout's fulfillment of that requirement.
-
After successful completion of the scoutmaster conference, the scout must request a "board of review" from the responsible adult leader (in most circumstances, this is currently the scoutmaster). A panel of at least three adult leaders will interview the scout on what he has learned pursuing his candidate rank and what his scouting plans are for the future. This is usually done in a "mentoring" manner with as non-threatening an atmosphere as possible. The scout must present in a properly worn class A uniform for this interview as well.
-
Upon successful completion of the board of review, the scout's new rank is announced, with a badge of rank presentation, at the end of the current meeting. The scout now has achieved his new rank and may wear the appropriate emblem on his uniform. Another formal acknowledgement will also be made at the next court of honor (three per year in June, September and February). Parents and other interested family members are encourage to attend courts of honor and share in the formal honor we pay to our scouts and their achievements.
Note: The first rank, Scout, does not require a board of review and is usually achieved quickly.
Note: The best place to complete advancement is at summer camp as camps have complete and well planned programs for rank advancement.
Note: The highest rank, Eagle Scout, has unique requirements and review procedures which will be conveyed as the scout enters the higher ranks.
